In Nigeria, the results of the skills assessment have shown that a large number of stakeholders evaluated were aware of
the availability of the existence of evidence bases accessible by internet, had the skills to use the internet and had the capacity to identify and obtain data evidence. The participants had knowledge and skills to use evidence in policy development, on the other hand, their institution had limited capacity to support the use of evidence-based.

Cette rencontre a vu la participation de plus de quatre-vingt personnes provenant des équipes de
recherche, des organisations de politique et de recherche en santé (OOAS, APHRC, PPD, ECSAHC), du centre de recherches international pour le développement et des consultants. L'atelier a permis de faire ressortir les perspectives des décideurs aux seins des équipes de recherche en matière de transfert de connaissances et d'identifier leurs besoins.

It is women and children across developing countries who suffer most from the shocks and stresses to health systems. In South Sudan — a country ravaged by conflicts — limited infrastructure, lack of health information, and severe shortages of health personnel contribute to high levels of maternal and child mortality. Outbreaks of infectious disease and epidemics have similar consequences — the impact of Ebola on maternal and child health in West Africa is one example.

La 2ème édition du Forum des Bonnes Pratiques en Santé de la CEDEAO s'est tenue du 26 au 28 octobre 2016 à Bassam, Côte d'Ivoire. L'un des thèmes de cette rencontre portait sur le transfert de connaissances
et l'utilisation des données probantes dans la programmes et politiques. 

Du 18 au 20 février, s'est tenu à Dakar l'atelier régional de validation de l'analyse de la situation sur le transfert de connaissances et l'utilisation des résultats de la recherche en SMNE. L'objectif de cet atelier était de ''valider les résultats de
l'analyse de la situation et identifier les interventions à mettre en œuvre''. Les soixante‐ seize participants de l'atelier étaient composés de décideurs en SMNE, des chercheurs, des consultants, des sociétés savantes en SMNE, des bureaux régionaux du système des Nations Unies, du CRDI, du gouvernement Canadien, de l'OOAS et de toute l'équipe du projet.

Innovative interventions to improve maternal and child health in Nigeria were the focus of a workshop in Abuja on September 21, 2016. Nigeria has the second highest absolute number of maternal deaths and perinatal deaths in the world, contributing to approximately 15% of all maternal deaths worldwide. 

The Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Canada's Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, announced major funding for an IDRC grantee during her August visit to West Africa. In Senegal, Minister Bibeau met with officials from the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences – Next Einstein Initiative (AIMS-NEI), a pan-African network of training centres enabling African students to become innovators driving scientific, educational, and economic self-sufficiency on the continent. 

Chers lecteurs, ce numéro du MEP News aborde un aspect des résultats issus de l'analyse de la situation ; celui de la prise en compte des aspects genre et équité dans les programmes de santé maternelle et infantile. Pour assurer un transfert de connaissances en SMNI et l'utilisation des données probantes dans l'espace CEDEAO, il était nécessaire de connaître les capacités de l'OOAs à jouer le rôle de hub régional de gestion de connaissances. La plateforme
régionale à mettre en place tiendra compte des spécificités de chaque pays et en utilisant les opportunités pour un accompagnement réels 

The Regional Workshop to validate the Situation Analysis of Knowledge Translation and Use of Research Results in MNCH was held in Dakar from 18 to 20 February. The objective of the workshop was to ''validate the findings of the situation analysis and
identify interventions to be implemented'' The workshop gathered together seventy-six participants including MNCH policy makers, researchers, consultants, MNCH learned societies, United Nations regional offices, IDRC, the Canadian government, WAHO and the entire project team.
